YouTube’s record for the most views on any video in 24 hours. Within minutes of releasing Boy With Luv, BTS’ music label, Big Hit Entertainment saw its shares double in value, pushing the company’s net worth to a whopping $8.5 billion. Why is BTS such a hit? Besides their genre-mixing sound, the band displays incredible choreography and a polished, yet streetwear-worthy style that stands out from American fashion. Another credit to the band’s talent – BTS’s seven members have a heavy influence in their song writing, even writing songs themselves, which touch on topic fans can relate to, including fear of failure, mental health, self-love and romance. Despite a language barrier, the lyrics and sound has touched fans. Considered one of the most popular bands today, BTS has 21 million followers on Twitter, and have sold more physical albums to date than Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift combined. Their tours sell out auditoriums worldwide, with some locations being sold out in 20 minutes. The band has even dropped singles with American stars like Halsey, Nicki Minaj and Sia. K-pop themed events, like KCON, now attract hundreds of thousands of K-pop fans. In fact, K-pop is now so popular in America that, for the first time ever, the MTV Video Music Awards is including a Best K-Pop category in their awards this year. The band’s next album, Be, which is set to release on November 20th, is sure to be a chart-topper. With American musicians and fans getting on board, it looks like there’s no stopping the K-pop train.
