Today I’m gonna talk about how the 7 BTS members were discovered and how they became part of BTS.
RM
RM was the first member to join BTS. He started rapping in the 6th grade, after listening to Epik High’s “Fly”.
In 2007, while he was in middle school he started rapping under the name “Runch Randa” and joined a rap crew called ‘Daenamhyup’.
Fun fact: The BigHit Entertainment producer, Supreme Boi was also a member of Daenamhyup.
RM released a few rap solo songs and his reputation grew, so he was invited to audition for a hip-hop agency.
There he met Untouchable’s Sleepy, who was a judge at the audition.
Impressed by RM’s rapping, Sleepy gave RM’s number to Bang Shi Hyuk, who invited RM to audition for BigHit Entertainment.
In 2010, RM was the first member to join BTS.
Suga
While in high school, Suga used to rap under the name “Gloss”. He also composed songs for local artists in his hometown.
After seeing a flyer for BigHit’s rap competition “Hit It”, Suga decided to audition.
Even though he took second place, he joined BigHit as a producer and trainee.
Bang PD convinced Suga to join BTS in 2010.
Fun fact: Suga joined BigHit as a producer. He did not intend to become an idol. To this day, Suga jokes that Bang PD tricked him into joining BTS.
“Join BTS he said” he said.
“There will be no dancing involved ” he said
J-Hope
J-Hope was well known as a dancer and he even joined a dance crew called ‘Neuron’ in his hometown.
He decided to audition for JYP Entertainment and although he passed the first rounds, he was eventually cut from JYP.
This led him to audition for BigHit instead.
J-Hope joined BigHit as a full-time trainee but he was almost left out until RM convinced both BigHit and J-Hope that the band needed him.
So, he returned to the group.
Jungkook
Jungkook is the youngest BTS member. He was discovered when he auditioned for the 3rd season of Superstar K in Busan.
Even though he was eliminated from the auditions, after the show he was scouted by 7 different entertainment agencies, including JYP, Cube, Starship and BigHit.
In the end he chose to join BigHit because of RM, who impressed him.
So Jungkook wanted to train and work with him.
Jin
Jin was the 4th member to join BTS.
The first time, he was scouted by SM Entertainment, but he thought it was a scam, so he never went to the auditions.
Then he was scouted again by BigHit.
A BigHit scout saw Jin as he was exiting a bus, he was blown away by his handsome face, so he convinced Jin to audition for the company.
Jin was an acting major, so he auditioned to become an actor.
But once again, Bang PD tricked him into becoming an idol.
V
As he stated multiple times, V grew up in a poor family of farmers.
His childhood dream was to become a musician, so, with the encouragement of his father, he started playing the saxophone in high school.
One day he accompanied a friend to an audition for BigHit in his hometown.
Even though V didn’t plan to audition himself, a BigHit employee saw him and encouraged him to give it a try. V called his dad to ask for permission and auditioned on the spot.
He ended up being the only person in Daegu to pass to the next round that day.
Jimin
While Jimin was a student at the Busan High School of Arts, one of his teachers encouraged him to audition for BigHit. After he passed the audition in his hometown, he moved to Seoul to become a trainee.
Even though his training period was the shortest and he was almost left out multiple times, Jimin became the final member to join BTS.
Now after knowing all this, it’s hard not to believe that BTS was destined to become what they are today.
