BTS Suga’s Hardships: The Prettiest Smile Hides a lot of Pain

He was born in a poor family. Growing up, he was a good student in school, but rather than paying attention in class, he spent his time writing lyrics on scraps of paper instead as a means of pursuing his passion for music. The fact that he had to sell music and choose between paying for Bus fares and food. Also, his parents were angry hearing that he had the passion for music and ended up throwing away most of his lyric sheets and forced him to study. Because of this, he left his family and gambled his education to live his dreams. Though Education is important, but it’s not the only factor that dictates our future. Yoongi began developing an interest in basketball; he was extremely good at it. But music was always his passion, and he continued producing despite his parents’ disapproval. At the age of 13, he began composing works and learned how to use MIDI by then. Because of the poor condition of his family, he was forced to work, but he decided to go to other places to sell his music on the streets. However, it was extremely hard to sell music, and Yoongi in both interviews and his music talks a lot about being scammed (people cheated him out of his money) for his music. While as a trainee, Yoongi began working as a newspaper delivery boy. When delivering papers, however, he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident which completely damaged his shoulder. Rather than telling anyone, he kept the secret to himself and fought through the pain as he practiced as a trainee under BigHit, afraid that if he told them that he would lose his career with them. To this day, Yoongi does not have full motion in that shoulder and he no longer is able to b-boy (special type of freestyle dance) because of it. Suga was very self conscious about the way he looked and his body frame. He thought he looked too large and started exercising really hard to lose weight but he just ended up getting his shoulder injury worsen where the doctor told him to stop exercising. As a result, Yoongi began developing mental health concerns. He developed severe depression and social anxiety which still affects him to this day. In his song “The Last” in his Agust D album, he talks about his mental disorders which were severe enough to lead him to see a psychiatrist. During the HYYH era, Yoongi’s social anxiety got to him, and BigHit was forced to cancel a concert because Yoongi was unable to perform. Two days later, he posted a long and emotional self-reflection about himself (transcript link on the description). He talked about his struggles in the song he wrote for BTS called “Tomorrow.” The lyrics are so convincing and especially motivating – since it is a song that Suga worked to write, compose, and arrange and is extremely proud of. As he continues on with his mixtape “Agust D” where he shares his own experiences of having mental health issues. He rote about his depression, having OCD, social anxiety, and mental issues along with other topics in that category that he personally went through. Especially his song, “The Last”, which talks a lot about seeking help and re-identifying himself. He poured his all and his heart to bring us that mixtape that meant a lot to him because it was true to him. He is not only an amazing idol, but even more of an amazing song writer and producer as he wants to shine light onto these types of matters that can help people get out of depression by listening to his music and sharing his experience through it which can let people know, That you are not alone. don’t give up, but be strong and fight back. ...
