방탄소년단, 올해의 글로벌 아티스트…영미 팝스타 모두 제쳤다
K-pop superstars BTS scooped the 2020 Global Recording Artist of the Year Award from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, an organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide.
This marks the first time for an Asian act to take the prestigious award since the organization began giving the award in 2013.
The IFPI on Thursday applauded the boyband, claiming they truly show the power that music has to bring joy and happiness to people around the world.
It explained that that seven-member group had a hugely successful year, becoming the first Korean pop act to reach the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, as well as securing its first major Grammy nomination.
Alongside BTS, American singer Taylor Swift came in second in the Global Artist Chart while Canadian rapper Drake was third.
