BTS’s J-Hope and Becky G just released their secret collaboration, “Chicken Noodle Soup,” and there are a lot of mixed feelings about the music video swirling around the internet.
What’s up? It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News J-Hope just dropped his first solo collab! His new song “Chicken Noodle Soup” is a collaboration with singer Becky G and it’s a tribute to when he started dancing as a kid.
Both Becky G and J-Hope both said that the 2006 hip-hop classic Webstar and Young B’s “Chicken Noodle Soup,” was one of their favorite childhood songs. It was definitely one of mine too, I was dancing to that song in middle school trying to learn all the moves.
But Becky G and J-Hope’s version of the song is multilingual. It features English, Korean, and Spanish lyrics, which is awesome. I love a song that blends different cultures, we are so here for it. In the verses, J-Hope raps about his story with dance, his goals, and his dreams. While Becky G raps about loving her roots and remembering where she came from.
And fans are loving the songs message. And we couldn’t agree more.
To celebrate the release of the song and BTS FINALLY joining TikTok, J-Hope dropped a video of himself dancing to the song and encouraged fans to do the same, tagging it #cnschallenge.
He also did a V Live appearance, where Jungkook and V also showed their versions of the challenge.
And while everyone is loving the song, there has been some backlash from some people surrounding the music video.
There was an epic moment where Becky G and J-Hope took on the song’s viral dance in the video with over 50 dancers from all around the world.
It was visually awesome and the dancing was extremely impressive.
But J-Hope found himself the subject of criticism due to one of the hairstyles he wears in this part of the video.
For most of the “Chicken Noodle Soup” video, J-Hope sports his natural hair style which now longer, with blonde highlights.
But toward the end of the video during the big dance number, he’s seen wearing a twisted hairstyle that some fans think resembled dreadlocks.
The hairstyle was also used for the promotion of the new song.
You can see it here in BTS’s tweet that said quote, “2 hours to go!!🐔🍜 #CNS”
And after seeing these pics, both ARMY members and others got into some online debates about whether or not the hairstyle was considered cultural appropriation.
And while some other fans weren’t sure if it was cultural appropriation, they still voiced their concerns on social media.
So while the song is unanimously loved, J-Hope’s look is causing a lot of controversy on the internet.
But I want to know what you think. Did you love Becky G and J-Hope’s new song? And did you watch the music video yet? If so, do you think his look was culturally insensitive? Let me know down in the comments below.
