If you haven’t heard of K-Pop group BTS, prepare to get yourself educated because they are currently blowing up…

Korean Boy Band BTS isn’t exactly a household name in the states yes, but they have been blowing up on the international charts since their debut in 2013 as the #1 Korean act, and they’re about to go on their second tour of the US. Made up of seven members, including Rap Monster, Jin, SUGA, V, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook, this group is definitely on its way to global superstardom. So here’s some fun facts you gotta know about BTS…

First, BTS stands for “Bangtan Son-yeon-dan”, which means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts”. The guys decided to use the acronym BTS as their English language tag, probably because a music group named after an organization all about collecting patches for good deeds doesn’t exactly scream “Swag”.

At the end of 2016, their second studio album, Wings, became the highest-charting Korean album to EVER appear on the Billboard 200, debuting at No. 26. It also went on to win the “Best Kpop Album of 2016” award by Billboard. The album was re-released under the title “You Never Walk Alone” in February of this year, with additional and expanded tracks. The album went platinum, selling more than 1.9 million copies worldwide. And this month the guys are taking all their hit songs from that album, including “Spring Day” and “Blood Sweat and Tears”, as well as their incredible dance moves, on a tour around the US.

Another awesome thing about BTS, is that they aren’t afraid to break gender norms. In a gender-bending photo shoot for Singles Magazine, the group wore fishnet stockings, corsets, and skirts in open defiance of gender norms.

Another cool fact about BTS, is that they produce most of their own music. Members Rap Monster and Suga have particularly gained recognition for their producing skills, and the entire group is credited with writing the majority of their hip-hop-infused songs.

But perhaps our favorite thing about BTS, is that they go above and beyond to connect with their fan base. Not only do the boys frequently post to their social accounts, they also interact with fans through regular live streams, adding English subtitles so that they can connect with their international fanbase, as well as their fans at home. They also have a “Bangtan Bomb” web series, which features clips of their daily lives and behind the scenes footage from their tours.

And with that, I think we can all agree that BTS deserves all the recognition and success coming their way.

Alright guys, now I wanna know what your favorite thing is about BTS, so sound off with all your thoughts in the comments below. I’m your host Tom Plumley, thanks so much for tuning in and I’ll see ya next time!
