BTS picked up three American Music Awards, marking their second consecutive year to be awarded on the mainstream US award show, the 2019 AMAs ceremony. Similarly, many fans around the world expected BTS to be nominated for the 2020 Grammy Awards, one of the major American pop music awards, as well. However, once BTS was not included in the 2020 Grammys nomination list, the Grammys were under fire for overlooking the band’s achievements, and triggered criticisms within the American music industry to have not been able to recognize artists from other cultures.
