2019 was yet another year filled with large-scale accidents and challenges. Tensions have increased on the North Korean front with the collapse of the Trump-Kim summit in Hanoi, and the worsened Korea-Japan relations over wartime forced labor and Japan’s export curbs against South Korea has put the Korean Peninsula back into turmoil. There were a number of issues and accidents, including the identification of the suspect of South Korea’s worst serial murder case in 33 years, as well as the Danube boat sinking accident and the Burning Sun scandal. Under a series of such tragic news, BTS wrapped up their first-ever stadium tour concert as a global sensation and the success of Bong Joon-ho’s film, “Parasite,” has comforted and raised national pride in South Korea. This week, as a year-end special, Korea Now looked into South Korea’s 7 biggest news stories of 2019.
